PREVIEW: LEICESTER v OXFORD (ROWE MOTOR OIL PREM)
LEICESTER can further consolidate their place in the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership top four with a win over Oxford at the Hydroscand Arena, Beaumont Park tonight (Thursday).
The Lions won the reverse fixture by eight points on Easter Monday so any victory tonight will give them the aggregate point, and their recent home form has been strong.
However, the Spires are also boosted by recent performances as they seek a second win on the road, and track specialist Richard Lawson has been booked to guest for the unwell Erik Riss.
The Lions continue to operate rider replacement for the injured Luke Becker, and they are chasing a fourth successive home league win.
Manager Stewart Dickson said: “I was pleased with the performance last week against King’s Lynn, and also with the fact that there was some really good racing too.
“Now we have to keep it going, and our full focus is on Oxford because they have riders who are capable of causing us problems.
“They have a very good guest in Richard, and although it will be a long time since Peter Kildemand last saw the Leicester track, we’re going to need our reserves to be on it as they have been lately.
“Oxford had a good win over Birmingham and they went close against Ipswich, so it should be a good match, but if we carry on doing what we’ve been doing of late, it’s one we expect to be winning.”
Spires boss Peter Schroeck said: “As I’ve said before, a lot of people have written us off already, but my agenda is to get stuck in for the rest of the season and that’s what the boys are doing.
“It was disappointing we didn’t get the points against Ipswich, but I certainly wasn’t disappointed with the effort they put in.”
