BEARS WIN BY TEN

REDCAR overcame a stubborn Edinburgh challenge to defeat the Monarchs 50-40 at the ECCO Arena in the Cab Direct Championship.

The Bears established a ten-point lead in the space of five races but they saw that cut to four with four heats to go as the visitors battled to remain in touch.

However, home guest Tate Zischke took a big win in Heat 12 with Ace Pijper third, and two shared races secured the home win before Charles Wright and Danny King raced to a 5-1 in the finale.

Wright scored 13 for the Bears and King added 12+1 with reserve duo Pijper (8) and Jody Scott (5+2) impressing whilst Paco Castagna was top scorer for the Monarchs with 10+1.

Edinburgh boss John Campbell said: “The ten-point defeat doesn’t reflect how we came back into the match, to the extent that the tac sub plan in Heat 12 was blown apart!  

“There was evidence from the whole team that if they can make starts they will win, but we just don’t make enough starts.”
