PREVIEW: SCUNTHORPE v BERWICK (CAB DIRECT CHAMP)

SCUNTHORPE and Berwick head into a vital weekend of Cab Direct Championship action with the sides set to meet twice in 24 hours – starting at the Eddie Wright Raceway tonight (Friday).

The Scorpions dropped a point in their home opener against Glasgow whilst the Bandits did put a win on the board in their only league match so far against Poole.

The hosts name a full-strength one-to-seven whilst Berwick bring in Tom Spencer at reserve to guest for the injured Dayle Wood, and Jack Smith makes his first appearance since his short-term deal was extended for the remainder of the campaign.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “There’s a long way to go this season, but we definitely need to be picking up some victories and building some momentum.

“The first priority is to win the meeting, and then also build up an aggregate lead ready for the away meeting on Saturday, although it would be even better if we can do the double over Bandits this weekend.

“Berwick do have a decent line-up this season, led by two former Grand Prix riders in their ranks in Peter Kildemand and Craig Cook, plus former Scorpion Drew Kemp. It should be a very good meeting ahead at the EWR, full of breath-taking speedway.”

Bandits boss Stewart Dickson said: “If we can’t win at Scunthorpe we at least keep it close so we can target the aggregate point on Saturday night.

“Scunthorpe don’t lose very often at home, or win too often on the road for that matter, but the fact that they have reached three of the last four play-off series shows the importance of winning your home meetings.

“As always I’m less worried about the supposed strengths and weaknesses of the opposition and more concerned about all seven of my riders getting on with their jobs.”

SCUNTHORPE: Steve Worrall, Zaine Kennedy, Declan Kennedy, Connor Mountain, Jake Allen, Luke Harrison, Simon Lambert.

BERWICK: Peter Kildemand, Sam Hagon, Danyon Hume, Drew Kemp, Craig Cook, Tom Spencer, Jack Smith.

SCB Referee: Dave Watters
