COMETS CALL FOR GATING

WORKINGTON boss James Denham has called on his side to step up their gating as a matter of urgency after a troubling weekend of results.

The Comets suffered a 61-29 defeat at Scunthorpe on Friday and then completed their BSN Series fixtures by losing 54-36 at home to in-form Redcar less than 24 hours later.

Denham said: “At Scunthorpe we were beaten by a better team, a more experienced team around there and fair play to them.

“But Saturday was even more dismaying, they (Redcar) were far superior out of the gates and it something we need to work on going into our next meetings in a couple of weeks against Edinburgh.

“We all know the performance was not good enough and all the riders know they need to improve. No excuses.”

One boost for the Northside outfit is that Finnish star Antti Vuolas reported only cuts and bruises after two heavy crashes on Saturday, and he is expected to be fit for their next meetings.
