BEWLEY BEST OF BRITISH?
BELLE Vue promoter Mark Lemon expects the tenth staging of the Attis Insurance Sports Division British Final in Manchester to produce another classic event.
The national championship meeting has been run at the National Speedway Stadium since the venue opened in 2016, and six of the seven winners over that period will be competing again on Monday.
Lemon admits he’s hoping home favourite Dan Bewley can write himself into the record books with a fourth straight victory, a feat only previously achieved by New Zealander Barry Briggs in the mid-1960s.
Lemon said: “Right from the off in 2016 the meeting has provided drama and outstanding racing.
“Danny King produced the goods in the first one here, blasting round the boards in the rain.
“Our own Belle Vue superstar Dan Bewley is going for a historic fourth successive title. It would be somewhat poetic if he could achieve that considering his speedway career actually started here at the NSS with the Colts when we opened in 2016.”
