KILLEEN WINS U21 QUALIFIER
OXFORD’S Luke Killeen led the qualifiers for next month’s British Under-21 Final with victory at Plymouth on Tuesday.
Killeen won three of his first four rides, dropping a point to home favourite Ben Trigger in Heat 7, and then he won a long-running Heat 19 which featured a total of four starts, to go through on 14 points.
15-year-old Will Cairns finished second on the night with 13, and Trigger was also on the rostrum in third place with 11.
Also making it through to the Final at Glasgow on May 18 were Ace Pijper, Sam McGurk, Jody Scott, Max Perry and Freddy Hodder.
Killeen said: “We had a few goes in that final race, but it paid off for me in the end.
“I felt I had to win that race, because Will was flying by the end of the meeting and I’m not sure if I could have beaten him in a run-off for first place.
“It’s always good to win a meeting, but the focus now shifts to the final at Glasgow next month.”
