SPIRES SEEK EASTER UPTURN
OXFORD Spires boss Peter Schroeck has issued a rallying call as the Cowley club look to improve on a disappointing start to the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership season.
Spires have lost their opening five fixtures in league and KO Cup, and they now face an important home and away double against Leicester on Easter Monday.
Schroeck said: “It’s been a difficult start for Spires. I fully realise that the buck stops with the management.
“But at the same time, speedway is all about individuals combining as a team and it’s up to each rider to score points – that’s the job they are employed to do.
“I’ve said it time and again, but we value the support of the fans and it really makes a difference to the boys when they can hear the cheers as they line-up at the starting tapes.
“Our target for the BetGoodwin Oxford Spires remains to reach the play-offs. To do that, we don’t have to finish top, anywhere in the top four will do. It’s still not out of reach by any means, but we do need to start winning our home meetings.”
