GLADIATORS EDGE NARROW WIN

PLYMOUTH defeated Scunthorpe 46-43 as another cracking Cab Direct Championship clash was settled in a last-heat decider at the Coliseum.

Former Gladiators rider Kyle Howarth combined with Connor Mountain for a 5-1 in Heat 14 to cut the gap to three points, and the Scorpions sent out the same pairing in the finale.

But this time Mountain crashed out enabling home duo Ben Barker and guest Zach Cook to follow Howarth home for a 3-3 in the re-run.

Reserve Joe Thompson won three races and scored 11 for the Gladiators, whilst Howarth racked up 15 from six rides for the Scorpions as they comfortably secured the aggregate point.

The result leaves Scunthorpe second in the table, four points behind Poole ahead of their meetings this week, whilst Plymouth are eighth but still in with a play-off chance as they are just four points behind Redcar with four matches in hand.
