PREVIEW: OXFORD v IPSWICH (ROWE MOTOR OIL PREM)

OXFORD race at home for the second time this week when they host ROWE Motor Oil Premiership leaders Ipswich at Cowley tonight (Thursday).

The Spires secured a narrow win over Sheffield on Monday in yet another close contest at home, and the Witches are the only visiting side to take an away victory there this season.

The Foxhall club looked set to repeat the feat when the weather intervened last month, although they suffered a heavy defeat at Belle Vue on Monday, and tonight they bring in Scott Nicholls to guest for Jason Doyle at No.1.

Oxford boss Peter Schroeck said: “Momentum is important in speedway, and we beat Sheffield on Monday and that gave the boys a big boost. We’re in a good place after that, and the weather is looking fine again.

“Ipswich are a very talented side, we know that from their previous performances at Oxford this season. But they had a difficult night at Belle Vue on Monday.

“All we can do is concentrate on our own performance. If we fire on all cylinders we can beat the Witches.”

Witches manager Ritchie Hawkins said: “We have come off a bad result, but our confidence is still high going to Oxford, a team we have beaten a few times this year and we have done well at their home track.

“We go with confidence and determination and after Monday’s result it puts more emphasis on winning and getting back on another winning streak quickly.

“We have got Scott back in the team which has worked very well this year, and it is a track he clearly knows well. We will go there with what feels like a full team and high expectations of ourselves.”
