PREVIEW: OXFORD v WORKINGTON (CAB DIRECT CHAMP)

OXFORD meet Workington in a big clash of the top two in the Cab Direct Championship at Cowley tonight (Wednesday).

The two sides are tied on 11 points from seven matches apiece, and the aggregate point is also up for grabs after the Comets claimed a narrow 46-44 win when the sides met in Cumbria last month.

The Cheetahs welcome back Ashton Boughen after international duty but recent signing Adam Roynon is ruled out with shoulder ligament damage, so Jody Scott steps up from their NDL team to race at reserve.

Meanwhile the Comets are at full strength, with both Craig Cook and Troy Batchelor having represented Oxford in the past, and they welcome back Celina Liebmann following her successful weekend in Germany.

Cheetahs boss Peter Schroeck said: “The boys showed all their battling abilities last week, with both the home meeting against Poole and the away meeting at Redcar going all the way to a Super Heat.

“I would to prefer to avoid one of those this week if we can – they’re not too good for the blood pressure!

“Workington are in second place for a reason – they’ve got a strong side. They are led by two very recognisable faces in Craig and Troy. We would love to take all three points off them, but there’s no way we will under-estimate them.”

Comets boss James Denham said: “It’s going to be tough no doubt, as Oxford are a strong side – especially at home. But we have also sprung a few surprises this season home and away so there’s no reason we can’t get a result at Cowley.

“Ideally we would have liked more of an advantage to go down there with but nevertheless our mindset wouldn’t have changed even if we did; it’s the result and aggregate point we are looking for.”

OXFORD: Sam Masters, Cameron Heeps, Luke Killeen, Jordan Jenkins, Scott Nicholls, Ashton Boughen, Jody Scott.
WORKINGTON: Craig Cook, Tate Zischke, Antti Vuolas, Claus Vissing, Troy Batchelor, Celina Liebmann, Sam McGurk.
SCB Referee: Michael Breckon
