BIG FINISH FROM CHEETAHS

OXFORD came up with another big finish to record a 54-36 win over Edinburgh and maintain the Cheetahs’ 100 per cent home record.

Only two points separated the sides with six races remaining in the Cab Direct Championship clash, but the hosts then recorded four 5-1s, including three consecutively in the final three heats.

And the finale saw a vintage ride by skipper Scott Nicholls to go around Justin Sedgmen and Craig Cook and join colleague Sam Masters up-front.

Nicholls (13+1) and Masters (10+3) were well supported by Cameron Heeps (10+2) whilst reserve Ashton Boughen again played a pivotal role with 13+1 from six rides. Monarchs guest Craig Cook scored 13+1 and was unbeaten prior to Heat 13.

Edinburgh boss John Campbell said: “We had the bad gates at the finish and it was thrown away at that stage.

“We had some good performers, Kye Thomson won two races, Craig Cook and Justin Sedgmen did well until they got the poor gates against the top men at the end. “
