DOYLE DELIGHT IN WARSAW

IPSWICH star Jason Doyle leads the World Championship after a dominant display to win the FIM Speedway GP of Poland in Warsaw.

The Aussie ace’s first GP victory since October 2017, his World title season, gives him a six-point advantage at the top of the standings.

And with Doyle on 38 points and fellow countryman Jack Holder on 32 it means the top two riders in the rankings will go head-to-head in the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership on Monday as the Witches travel to Sheffield, live on Eurosport and discovery+.

Bartosz Zmarzlik is also on 32 points after finishing second in Warsaw, whilst Great Britain’s Robert Lambert also enjoyed a podium finish and is now placed fourth overall.

Doyle said: “As a speedway rider, you know sometimes that you’re not over. I’m getting a little bit older, but I still feel in my head that I can win GPs.

“It’s nearly seven years since I last won a GP in Melbourne and that’s probably why I celebrated so hard after the race. I had worked so hard with the team and the people around me. We’ve kept the team pretty close.

“To finally stand on top of the podium after so long means so much to us. It’s a night I will never forget – and in front of around 50,000 people in Poland.”
