Report

WORKINGTON’S opening combination of Craig Cook and Tate Zischke both scored five-ride maximums in an impressive Comets victory over Scunthorpe.

The home side triumphed 56-34 in the BSN Series to put themselves in control of the Northern group, meaning they only require the aggregate point when they visit the Eddie Wright Raceway in order to progress.

The result came despite the Comets losing Antti Vuolas, who crashed in his second ride and was withdrawn with concussion.

But the hosts redoubled their efforts with Cook and Zischke both unbeaten, and their reserves also gave notable displays.

Youngster Sam McGurk secured a race win in Heat 11 against Scorpions No.1 Kyle Howarth, whilst Celina Liebmann recorded her first victory in British Speedway in the very next race.

Liebmann, the world’s top female racer, won Heat 12 ahead of Scunthorpe captain Simon Lambert, McGurk and the visitors’ guest Jack Smith.
