BRANDON BOOST FROM No.10
THE Campaign to bring speedway back to Brandon Stadium has received another big boost – with backing from Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
The issue of the iconic former home of the Coventry Bees, which was closed by developers Brandon Estates seven years ago, was raised by Rugby MP Mark Pawsey at PMQs on Wednesday.
That came following the recent dismissal of the developers’ appeal against the rejection of planning permission, as the Inspector concurred with the original decision taken by Rugby Planning Committee members over a year ago.
Mr Sunak said: “I join my honourable friend in paying tribute and being proud of Britain’s rich history in the automotive and motorsport sectors.
“The stadium that he talks about is a historic motorsport venue, and whilst it’s been a shame to see it fall into disrepair, I hope that the decision he refers to enables the possibility of both speedway and stock car racing to return.
“And I know that my honourable friend will rightly continue to champion this cause.”
