POSTPONED: LEICESTER v OXFORD/MILDENHALL (NDL GRAND FINAL/KO CUP FINAL)

SUNDAY’S scheduled NDL double-header has been postponed because the track has been declared unfit for racing. The Lion Cubs were due to face Oxford Chargers in the NDL Grand Final 1st leg at 3pm, followed immediately by the 2nd leg of their NDL KO Cup Final tie against Mildenhall Fen Tigers. New dates for both fixtures will follow as soon as they are confirmed.

LEICESTER and Oxford clash in the first leg of the National Development League Grand Final at Beaumont Park today (Sunday, 3pm).

The Lion Cubs are defending champions and are seeking their third title in four seasons, whilst the Chargers were their nearest challengers in the regular campaign.

The home side are at full strength but Henry Atkins misses out for the visitors due to family commitments, with Kai Ward coming in to replace him.

Following the Grand Final contest, the Lion Cubs defend an 11-point lead against Mildenhall in the second leg of the NDL KO Cup Final against Mildenhall, who track Ward, Billy Budd and Andy Braithwaite as replacements along with Ben Morley guesting for the injured Alfie Bowtell.

Leicester boss Dave Howard said: “Both meetings will be massive challenges as both Oxford and Mildenhall will be giving their all to take the league and Cup away from the us.

“The fans’ support has been so appreciated by me and the team, and we will give everything we can to make it a great and successful end to the season for the Lion Cubs.”

Oxford manager Peter Schroeck said: “It feels like we haven’t taken to the track for an age. But the boys have been keeping themselves prepared behind the scenes to avoid slipping into winter hibernation.

“Leicester have experienced the same issues with the weather, so it’s not an excuse for either team.

“It’s been a memorable campaign on and off track so we’re hoping to go out on a high and end the year with some silverware which is what the supporters deserve.”
