COLTS COMPLETE COMEBACK

BELLE Vue wrapped up their NDL campaign with a 46-44 win at Berwick on Saturday.

Freddy Hodder starred for the Colts with a 15+1 haul, backed up by James Pearson on 13+1 and Jack Smith on 11+1 as they completed a comeback from 12 points down after nine races, with Hodder and Pearson combining for a 5-1 in Heat 15.

Reserve Mason Watson top-scored for the Bullets with 11 and Danny Phillips scored 12 as the home side signed out of their spell in the third tier.

Colts co-boss Graham Goodwin said: “We came to Shielfield with the sole purpose of finishing our season on a high and that’s exactly what the boys have delivered.

“We couldn’t be prouder of their efforts. After Heat 9, we were 12 points down and looking potentially like we might just miss out on the win on the night.

“But the team really came string in the second half of the night and we were particularly impressed with Ed Davison who, admittedly, we didn’t expect too much of.

“All of the boys did well. This was a real team effort to finish our year with one final win and, although we won’t make the play-offs, we feel this has been a very successful year for us.”

Berwick co-promoter Steve Dews said: “I’m disappointed for the boys because they gave us everything they had on the night, and it would have been good to see them rewarded for that.

“Senna Summers had a debut to remember while Archie (Freeman) did remarkably well after returning from such a serious injury. In the end we were just stretched too thin, man and machine, in the closing stages.”
