PREVIEW: SCUNTHORPE v POOLE (Cab Direct Champ)

SCUNTHORPE are set to welcome back Michael Palm Toft for their Cab Direct Championship clash at home to Poole tonight (Friday).

The Dane has been sidelined for two months with an ankle injury but returns at the Eddie Wright Raceway in a big meeting between play-off contenders.

The Scorpions need 50 points on the night to maintain their perfect record of aggregate points, whilst the Pirates can close to within three points of leaders Oxford with a win.

Scunthorpe are without Drew Kemp, who is on SON2 duty with Great Britain in Latvia, with Steve Boxall coming in to guest at reserve.

The Pirates are without both regular reserves, Anders Rowe due to SON2 and Adam Roynon due to injury, and have booked Alfie Bowtell and Sam Hagon to guest.

Scorpions promoter Rob Godfrey said: “We know that tonight’s meeting will be extremely difficult – Poole always have a very strong side.

“They’ve ended up as champions for both the last two seasons, but having said that, we beat them around the Eddie Wright Raceway in both those seasons and there’s no reason why we can’t beat them again.

“Our first task is gaining victory, while Ryan (Douglas) scored an 18-point-maximum when we were down there in May and we’re also not too far behind on aggregate, and there is a bonus point to chase as well.”

Pirates co-promoter Dan Ford said: “We only need to look back to when they were here at Poole. It took us ten heats to get our noses in front on that occasion and we saw just what a quality rider Ryan is, and you don’t see him not heading the field in too many races at Scunthorpe.

“But we will be going there with our simple game plan of getting a win. If we do that then it is another three points on the board and every point is key at the moment.”

SCUNTHORPE: Ryan Douglas, Connor Mountain, Simon Lambert, Michael Palm Toft, Jake Allen, Nathan Ablitt, Steve Boxall.
POOLE: Richard Lawson, Kyle Newman, Ben Cook, Zach Cook, Steve Worrall, Alfie Bowtell, Sam Hagon.
