PREVIEW: BIRMINGHAM v GLASGOW (Cab Direct Champ)

BIRMINGHAM’S latest line-up changes come into force for the first time when they host unbeaten Glasgow at Perry Barr tonight (Wednesday).

The Brummies, who were boosted by a win over Berwick a fortnight ago, have brought in Paul Starke whilst Stefan Nielsen returns from injury, in a double move which also sees one of their form riders Alfie Bowtell move to reserve.

The Tigers’ Southern tour was cut in half when their trip to Plymouth on Tuesday was postponed, and they visit the Second City with two former Birmingham riders – Chris Harris, who captained the Brummies in 2021, and Claus Vissing who had an unhappy spell with the club last year.

Birmingham boss Stewart Dickson said: “Alfie has been riding really well, and to have the option of using him up to seven times, should I need to, is a big bonus for sure.

“That was an added plus that came from the changes we decided to make and I think it gives the team a real balance throughout now also.

“I’ve read comments about how some people have been staying away from Perry Barr because of how understrength they felt the team was – well, let me put it like this, I expect to see those people back in the stadium on Wednesday supporting Birmingham Speedway.

“Fair play to Nigel (Tolley – CEO) because he’s put his money where his mouth is, he’s allowed me to make the changes I felt would make us a much more competitive team and with the way the two teams are lining up, I think we’re in for a cracker against Glasgow.”

BIRMINGHAM: Nick Morris, Stefan Nielsen, Troy Batchelor, Paul Starke, Justin Sedgmen, Sam Hagon, Alfie Bowtell.
GLASGOW: Chris Harris, Marcin Nowak, Tom Brennan, Claus Vissing, Benjamin Basso, Lee Complin, Ace Pijper.
