SCORPIONS ON THE UP

SCUNTHORPE are up to third place in the Cab Direct Championship after defeating Edinburgh 51-39 at the Eddie Wright Raceway.

Ryan Douglas roared to a 15-point maximum for a solid-scoring home team, who put the match virtually beyond the Monarchs in the opening seven races.

There were three 5-1s to the Scorpions in that period as they led 29-13, before the visitors fought back strongly to cut the gap to six at one stage.

Reserve Lasse Fredriksen scored 13+3 from seven rides and Josh Pickering added 10, but the home side collected match victory and the aggregate point.

Scorpions manager Dave Peet said: “Fair play to Edinburgh who came back at us and got within six points, before we pulled a bit further forward again.

“Dougie was Dougie and did his usual stuff and scored a maximum, but everyone within the team from one-to-seven scoring points tonight and when that happens, we win. Everyone put in a shift tonight.”

Monarchs boss John Campbell said: “It’s always a challenge for us at Scunthorpe as it is such a specialist track with so many racing lines. The Scorpions got off to a strong start while we were working out the set-up and the lines.

“Lasse put in an impressive performance and fully merited his heat 15 appearance. Scunthorpe have been doing exceptionally well this season on their own track, but we will take the positives from tonight as we move onto Oxford on Wednesday.”
