PREVIEW: ULRICH OSTERGAARD FAREWELL, PETERBOROUGH

POPULAR Danish racer Ulrich Ostergaard brings down the curtain on his career with today’s (Sunday, 4pm) Farewell Meeting at Peterborough.

Ostergaard was involved in two top-flight title wins for the Panthers as well as Fours and Cup successes, and also gave good service to several other clubs during a two-decade British career.

Peterborough co-promoter Carl Johnson said: “Legend is used as a term too easily these days, but Ulrich Ostergaard is a legend at this club.

“He was a superb captain for me, and a superb club man – not just the way he rode his bike but also what he did off the track with the supporters, he was brilliant, easily one of the best riders I’ve had to deal with.

“As a person he’s a fantastic bloke, and I’ve met nobody better with the fans and with the kids, and with the sponsors.

“I know Ulle and his team have been working hard to secure the riders to make up a fantastic looking line-up, and I hope to see as many people here as possible to give him the fond farewell he deserves after all his years’ service for the Panthers.”

Ostergaard has arranged a Four Team Tournament with an individual Final and several support races – and the meeting will feature all of the riders who won the Premier League Fours title for Peterborough in 2017, when he was joined by Chris Harris, Paul Starke and Simon Lambert.

Said Ostergaard: “I can’t believe the generosity I have received in the lead up to Sunday, I have been overwhelmed by the response we have had to various sponsorship packages and the auctions, Sunday should be a great fun day for everyone.

“This is my time to say thanks and goodbye to all the fans who have stood by me and supported me in my career.”
