PREVIEW: SCUNTHORPE v OXFORD (Cab Direct Champ)
SCUNTHORPE host unbeaten league leaders Oxford in a mouth-watering Cab Direct Championship clash at the Eddie Wright Raceway tonight (Friday).
The Scorpions go into the meeting in great form with three impressive wins on their home track – whilst the Cheetahs already have away wins on the board from trips to Berwick, Birmingham and Plymouth.
Connor Mountain is set to line up for the hosts despite crashing out at Glasgow last week, and the Scorpions are expected to use rider replacement for the injured Michael Palm Toft.
Meanwhile a switch in Oxford’s riding order sees Henry Atkins move up into the top five with Cameron Heeps dropping to reserve.
Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “It’s going to be one hell of a meeting – it’s bound to be one of the matches of the season at the Eddie Wright Raceway. Something has got to give.
“Oxford haven’t dropped a point yet in the Cab Direct Championship – so maybe it’s about time we put that right!
“We don’t fear anyone, especially at the Eddie Wright Raceway, and I’m very optimistic that we can maintain our winning run which has seen us post three excellent home victories since the blip against Glasgow in mid-May.”
Oxford boss Peter Schroeck said: “This is going to be a difficult test for us. The Scunthorpe track is a unique configuration and we’re entering the meeting off the back of an eight-day break when everyone really was flying.
“The Scorpions are dark horses, in my opinion. They pushed Poole hard in Dorset not too long ago and their home record this year has been very good.
“Everyone in the camp is upbeat and we’re itching to get going again. Hopefully we can keep the positive run going and build excitement ahead of Berwick’s visit to Oxford next Wednesday.”
