PREVIEW: BIRMINGHAM v BERWICK (Cab Direct Champ)
BIRMINGHAM hand debuts to new signings Troy Batchelor and Sam Hagon when they host Berwick in the Cab Direct Championship tonight (Wednesday).
The Brummies are still chasing a first home win of the season and recently appointed manager Stewart Dickson now takes charge at Perry Barr for the first time.
The Bandits welcome back Rory Schlein who was sidelined by back spasms for the home defeat by Oxford last weekend.
Dickson said: “We need to kickstart our season sooner rather than later and a win over the Bandits would be more than very welcome indeed, for sure.
“The riders and the supporters know that I’m already looking for Birmingham to be more competitive; I want to see that focus, that steely determination and that desire needed to win a speedway meeting.
“I wouldn’t say it’s make or break, but these next few days are big for Birmingham and the rest of our season.”
Berwick co-promoter Scott Courtney said: “It’s not about who Birmingham have signed or what their new team manager is saying, it’s about how we perform on the night.
“Everyone knows his job. There are match-ups and battles throughout the 15 heats and it is a question of winning those both individually and as a team.”
West Midlands Mayor Andy Street and his Senior Policy Advisor Allan Andrews will also be in attendance.
BIRMINGHAM: Nick Morris, Alfie Bowtell, Troy Batchelor, Dan Thompson, Justin Sedgmen, Sam Hagon, Joe Thompson.
BERWICK: Rory Schlein, Thomas Jorgensen, Jye Etheridge, Jonas Knudsen, Leon Flint, Jacob Hook, Connor Coles.
