COMETS BACK ON COURSE
WORKINGTON No.1 Connor Bailey collected a paid maximum in the Comets’ 50-39 win over defending NDL champions Leicester.
Bailey, with 14+1, was backed up by reserve Luke Harrison with 11+1 whilst Ace Pijper and Sam McGurk both scored nine.
But the Lion Cubs were quickly reduced to five riders with Ashton Boughen a non-starter and Tom Spencer suffering a suspected broken wrist in a Heat 3 crash. Max Perry top-scored for the visitors with 11.
Harrison said: “It was another great day with the boys. It got a bit tricky with the heat and having a few rides close together, but I managed to score some good points and we came away with a win, which is brilliant.”
Leicester boss Dave Howard said: “Overall our five riders put in an absolutely amazing effort, and it was a great performance from them.
“My feelings are that if we’d had all seven riders, and not have lost the two we did, we would have won the meeting.”
