Report

SCUNTHORPE secured their place in the Cab Direct Championship play-offs with an impressive home display to beat Glasgow 54-36.

The Scorpions are up to 20 points in the league table with the result a major blow to the Tigers hopes of finishing top.

Jake Allen led the way with 13+1 and the home reserves also starred with Drew Kemp continuing his fine run with 12+1 and Nathan Ablitt contributing 8+2. Benjamin Basso and Chris Harris dominated the Glasgow scoring with 12+1 and 12 respectively.

Scunthorpe manager Dave Peet said: “When we had a team talk before the start of the meeting, we decided that we would set out to take the aggregate point as well as the victory and that’s just what we did.

“The reserves were brilliant tonight. Nathan was flying, while it was the second successive meeting where I’ve offered Drew Heat 15 on merit. He turned it down at Birmingham because he wanted to protect his paid maximum but took it tonight. It gives me so many options when both reserves are scoring so well.

“We wanted to ride ourselves into form and that’s what’s happening, and this is the time to do it. We’re in the play-offs and we want to keep this momentum going into them.”

Glasgow boss Cami Brown said: “We were probably always up against it tonight going into the meeting missing two of our own riders.

“We didn’t have Marcin Nowak or Ace Pijper and you need to be firing on all cylinders at a place like Scunny.

“We won here earlier in the season in the BSN Series but fair play, the Scorpions were excellent on this occasion.”
