PIRATES SET UP GLASGOW FINAL

POOLE cruised into the BSN Series Final with an emphatic 52-38 win at Redcar on Saturday – despite having only won their home leg by six points!

The Pirates showed their liking for the ECCO Arena with a dominant display on the road to set up a Final clash with Glasgow.

Australian star Ben Cook led the way with 15 points from six rides and his brother Zach with 8+2 was one of three other riders paid for double figures including skipper Steve Worrall on 10.

All six Pirates on track had at least one win or paid win, whilst the Bears’ lower order struggled with captain Charles Wright top-scoring on 13.

Poole promoter Dan Ford said: “Really proud of the boys tonight. You couldn’t have asked for any more. They came here facing a tough task but had the determination and the ability to go out there and get us over the line with a few heats to spare.

“All six riders tonight gave their all, but it was quite fitting that it was the Cook boys who did the big damage, considering how famous that name is in these parts.”

Redcar boss Gavin Parr said: “I don’t think we’ve got many positives to take. We thought we’d done the really hard work down at Poole, but they’ve just been far better.

“They’ve been better out of the starts and we’ve got no real complaints. We were beaten on the night by a better side.”
