STARS SHINE AGAINST PANTHERS

KING’S Lynn were convincing winners of the first of two quickfire derbies with A47 rivals Peterborough, racing to a 54-36 victory at the Adrian Flux Arena.

The Stars recorded four 5-1s in the first seven heats of the Sports Insure Premiership encounter, leaving the Panthers doing a containing job at best as they still await their first points of the season.

Guest Lewis Kerr scored 11+1 at reserve for the hosts with Krzysztof Kasprzak winning the last two races to end on 11, whilst the Panthers were served superbly by stand-in No.1 Richard Lawson, who scored 14+1 on his old home track and was unbeaten until Heat 15.

Stars boss Alex Brady said: “What I asked from the boys was to show a bit of aggression, and our problem this season has been being ten points down after the first four heats – as opposed to tonight being ten points up!

“I asked for a fast start to make sure we were in the lead at the first track grading, and they did just that.

“Obviously Peterborough came stronger in the second half of the meeting, but we dealt with them comfortably, and I’m really looking forward to Monday night now.”

Panthers star Benjamin Basso (5+1) said: “It was one of those days where nothing went as planned, and after zero, zero I made the gate in my third heat and I think my front wheel slipped on the concrete, and I hit my shoulder.

“I bounced back pretty strongly so overall I finished better than I started. My expectations for today were really high, but this is sport sometimes.

“I don’t think there’s a good explanation or excuse for the results, we’ve just got to man up and get it together.”
