LIDSEY MAX BUT WOLVES THROUGH

WOLVERHAMPTON are safely through to the Premiership KO Cup semi-finals despite a 54-36 defeat at Belle Vue in Thursday’s second leg.

Australian star Jaimon Lidsey raced to his first 15-point maximum for the home side, but the overall task of pulling back 26 points proved too great despite Wolves skipper Sam Masters seeing his scoring restricted to 2+1 due to illness.

Dan Bewley (12+2) and Brady Kurtz (11) were also in the big points for the Aces, with Ryan Douglas notching 11 as Wolves defended their advantage, the visitors also being helped by two important race wins for Steve Worrall (9).

Wolves boss Peter Adams said: “It was a difficult night for us, and we had one or two issues throughout the team.

“Sam Masters wasn’t well – you could tell that from his performance as his score was nowhere near what you would expect.

“But we got through, and that’s what we came for.”

Belle Vue Rising Star Jake Mulford (2+2) said: “Tonight was a great result for the team, at least at home, but I think the damage was done at Wolverhampton last month. It was a tough ask and we came very close to making it happen.

“We didn’t come into this believing anything other than we could potentially pull it back and I think we came very close to doing that, so we are disappointed not to be going through.”
