LAMBERT SECOND AT GORICAN

GREAT Britain’s Robert Lambert opened his World Championship campaign with second place in Saturday’s season-opening Grand Prix of Croatia.

The former King’s Lynn and Belle Vue rider equalled his best-ever GP result in tough conditions after heavy rain pre-meeting at Gorican, with defending champion Bartosz Zmarzlik taking top spot.

After 20 races the three GB riders were first, second and third on the scorechart but Aces No.1 Dan Bewley and former Wolves favourite Tai Woffinden were both eliminated in the semi-finals.

Lambert said: “In the Final, I didn’t really make the best of starts. There was a bit of carnage on the first corner with Doyley (Jason Doyle) going wide. A lot of guys didn’t know where to go and I was waiting for a red light that didn’t come.

“I made a move and managed to hold off Freddie (Lindgren), even though he was buzzing behind me.

“I am working hard to take this next step. For sure it will come in the future. There are a few more steps to come and I want to enjoy the moment of racing in this series.”
