PREVIEW: BIRMINGHAM v SCUNTHORPE (BSN SERIES)

BIRMINGHAM have booked former favourite Paco Castagna to stand in when they open their season at home to Scunthorpe in the BSN Series tonight (Wednesday).

Castagna, who rode for the Brummies in 2019 and 2021, guests for winter signing James Wright who is sidelined with a shoulder injury.

Nick Morris makes his debut for the home side at No.1 whilst the Scorpions call on Jason Edwards to guest at reserve with Zaine Kennedy ruled out.

Birmingham boss Laurence Rogers said: “It was a bit of a no-brainer to give Paco the call when we knew Wrighty wasn’t going to make it.

“Paco remains a firm favourite with our supporters at Perry Barr, he obviously likes the track and is capable of some really solid scores around there and we’re confident he can come in and provide the rest of the boys with the sort of support required to get the opening win over Scunthorpe.”

Scorpions promoter Rob Godfrey said: “We’ve already taken an excellent home win over Redcar in the BSN Series, and we have to take advantage that it will be Birmingham’s first home meeting of the season.

“A win at Perry Barr would place us in a very nice position in our group, which we could then consolidate with a home victory over the Brummies in Friday’s big clash at the Eddie Wright Raceway.”

BIRMINGHAM: Nick Morris, Alfie Bowtell, Paco Castagna, Stefan Nielsen, Justin Sedgmen, Ty Proctor, James Pearson.
SCUNTHORPE: Ryan Douglas, Simon Lambert, Connor Mountain, Jake Allen, Michael Palm Toft, Jason Edwards, Joe Thompson.
