PREVIEW: SHEFFIELD v KING’S LYNN (P-KOC)
SHEFFIELD host King’s Lynn in the KO Cup at Owlerton tonight (Thursday) in an early repeat of last season’s equivalent League Cup Final.
The Tigers took the silverware on that occasion and will be looking to build a first leg lead, following their opening Premiership home and away wins over Belle Vue.
Meanwhile the Stars, who stage the return fixture on April 24, are keen to bounce back from a heavy defeat at Wolverhampton in their match of the season on Monday.
Sheffield boss Simon Stead said: “We have got a very impressive record over King’s Lynn in recent history, but this is a new season now and that all counts for very little going into this latest Cup tie.
“They’ve brought in a couple of riders to try and strengthen them up a bit this year and they‘ve got some riders who the Sheffield track suits.
“But as I always say, we just need to focus on ourselves and quite rightly, the lads should be going into this meeting with a bit of confidence and a bit of belief after what has been a positive couple of results against Belle Vue.”
Stars manager Alex Brady said: “They’ve started incredibly well so we need to go there and look to keep it as tight as we possibly can.
“Obviously we’ll be going there with the intention to win, but realistically if we can keep it to within a reasonable deficit for when we go back to King’s Lynn in a couple of Mondays time then it’s all to play for.
“It’s going to be a tough challenge, but we’re looking for a few riders to put things right from the meeting at Wolverhampton.”
