PIRATES ARRANGE ROBINS CHALLENGE
POOLE have announced plans to host a Swindon Robins Select side during a gap in their Cab Direct Championship fixture list on Wednesday May 10.
The two clubs were fierce rivals and contested several hard-fought encounters, but the Robins – who will be managed by Alun Rossiter – have not raced since the 2019 season when they lifted the top-flight title.
Pirates promoter Dan Ford said: “We all know how disappointing it is to lose clubs and whilst Swindon are presently without a base we felt that we couldn’t turn down the opportunity to help keep the Swindon name in the limelight, given that over the years there have been many exciting clashes between Poole sides and our Wiltshire neighbours, so we are delighted to be able to slot in this challenge meeting.
“I am sure that Rosco will be keen to assemble a strong Swindon side, just as he had planned on Wednesday night when the Robins were due to race at Oxford, and the extra track time will only serve a good purpose for our boys.
“We have a lull in our fixtures in early May, so opening up one of the dates for this meeting means that we can provide some speedway racing for our fans.”
