NIGEL JOINS HALL OF FAME
LEGENDARY writer and broadcaster Nigel Pearson has been posthumously inducted into British Speedway’s Hall of Fame.
The award, which marks outstanding commitment to the sport over an extensive time period, was presented to members of Nigel’s family prior to Monday’s ultimately postponed Premiership play-off at Wolverhampton.
The entire sport was shocked by Nigel’s sudden passing just before Easter, and news of the award was warmly received at Monmore – where he had previously worked as track announcer, press officer and programme editor.
BSPL Director Chris Louis said: “Nobody deserves this induction into the Hall of Fame more than Nigel.
“He was known as the voice of speedway, but he was so much more than that for British Speedway in particular.
“Personally I was privileged to be able to travel around Europe with him, we had a lot of fun times together, and he was the ultimate professional in what he did.
“I don’t think there’s one trip we’ve made this year where a story about Nigel hasn’t come up, and it’s been nice to share those memories. This award is richly deserved.”
