NO RESULT AT GLASGOW

GLASGOW and Poole had contrasting reactions after their Championship play-off semi-final at Ashfield was abandoned after five completed races.

The Tigers were leading 17-13 when a halt was called after the first attempt to run Heat 6 which saw home guest Paul Starke fall on the third bend. There had been an earlier delay to the meeting due to rain.

It means Wednesday’s fixture at Wimborne Road will now become the first leg of the tie, with Leicester awaiting the aggregate winners in the Grand Final.

Glasgow manager Cami Brown said: “The track just wasn’t raceable after the rain unfortunately.

“Paul Starke fell off while we were on what looked like a comfortable 5-1, and he came in and said there was just no grip at all.

“Craig Cook came in after his previous heat and said you can ride round, but you can’t race, so the fans wouldn’t see proper racing and I think it was the right decision.”

Poole co-promoter Danny Ford said: “As a unit our boys certainly wanted to continue racing, and we all felt that the match could well have gone the distance, had people been willing to give it some time.

“Unfortunately the referee made his decision after listening to the arguments on both sides, coming down firmly in favour of Glasgow’s preference to call it a day.

“It is extremely frustrating and annoying for us and for the handful of fans who made the long journey North.”
