CLOSE CALL FOR WOLVES

WOLVERHAMPTON held on for a 46-44 win over play-off rivals Sheffield in a thrilling Premiership contest at Monmore Green on Monday.

Luke Becker was the home side’s hero in Heat 15 as he took the crucial second place ahead of the Tigers’ Tobiasz Musielak, re-passing the Pole after skipper Sam Masters had fallen.

Becker dropped just one point all meeting, scoring 13+1, whilst ex-Wolves Musielak (11+1) and Kyle Howarth led the way for the Owlerton outfit.

Said Becker: “It’s not ideal coming down to last heat deciders but I’m happy it ended the way we needed it to.

“All in all that was a good team win; Sheffield are a good solid team, especially around here so we’re happy with that.”

Sheffield boss Simon Stead said: “Obviously I’m frustrated that we couldn’t get over the line with more, but overall the positives certainly outweigh the negatives.

“Especially being without Adam (Ellis – injured), I thought it was a really strong team performance against a Wolverhampton team who notoriously don’t give too much away around their home track.

“For me I saw plenty to be encouraged by, so we’ll take the point as a plus and try and use that as something to build on for what will be a really tough test against Belle Vue on Thursday.”
