PREVIEW: SCUNTHORPE v BERWICK (Champ)
SCUNTHORPE and Berwick are both boosted by rider availability ahead of tonight’s (Friday) crunch Championship clash at the Eddie Wright Raceway.
The Scorpions are one point behind Redcar in the fight for the all-important sixth place, whilst the Bandits have an outside mathematical chance of making the play-offs themselves.
The hosts have Jake Allen back from injury and hand a home debut to recent signing Anders Rowe, whilst the visitors are able to welcome back Danish youngster Jonas Knudsen after visa delays. Luke Crang comes in at reserve for the injured Nathan Stoneman.
Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “Our season now boils down to just a few meetings. If we don’t get the results we want, then it will be season over and we’ll be done for the year by the first week in September.
“It goes without saying the meeting against Berwick is a ‘must win’. We need the three points against Bandits. We could then do with other results going in our favour, which would tee us up nicely for our big fixtures at Redcar and Berwick next week.
“But we will concentrate on getting the results we need one meeting at a time, because it’s still all in our hands.”
Bandits boss Gary Flint said: “We cannot thank our MP and her office enough for the time and effort they put in on our behalf and it would be an understatement to say that we are relieved that it is over.
“Jonas was with us in the stands at the British Grand Prix on Saturday night and of course he rode in the SGP2 on Sunday.
“He has been as frustrated as us at not being able to race in Britain after making an impressive start to his career over here and is keen to make the most of the remaining weeks of the season.”
SCUNTHORPE: Ryan Douglas, Simon Lambert, James Wright, Jake Allen, Tero Aarnio, Adam Roynon, Anders Rowe.
BERWICK: Chris Harris, Theo Pijper, Jye Etheridge, Leon Flint, Ricky Wells, Jonas Knudsen, Luke Crang.
