PREVIEW: TODD KURTZ TESTIMONIAL, SHEFFIELD

SHEFFIELD open their doors on a new season with a special meeting at Owlerton tonight (Thursday).

The Todd Kurtz Testimonial has now taken on extra significance with the rider confirming he is to retire which means the event doubles-up as a Farewell meeting.

Top Tigers man Jack Holder is amongst a glittering field including former World Champions Chris Holder and Jason Doyle.

And Kurtz has revealed how some of his best times in the sport were with the younger Holder at Plymouth.

He said: “Although I didn’t race against Jack a hell of a lot until he came to the UK, he was always racing against my brother Brady back in Aussie, so it feels like I have known him forever.

“We had two fun seasons together at Plymouth, and winning the Premier League Fours with him and Brady was definitely a highlight, especially when nobody expected it – neither did we.

“We both lived around Poole for four or five years so we hung out quite a lot. There was never a dull moment, that’s for sure.”
