GLASGOW UP FOR THE CHALLENGE

GLASGOW co-promoter Alan Dick expects a capacity crowd when the FIM Grand Prix Challenge comes to Ashfield later this year.

The Tigers were awarded the high-profile event, which determines qualifiers for the 2023 GP series, after staging successful qualifiers in recent seasons – with the meeting set for Saturday August 20.

Dick said: “It’s a massive honour. The biggest and most prestigious meeting in the history of the club, without any shadow of doubt.

“When we were informed by the FIM after their Congress in Prague in November that we had been chosen to host the Challenge, it was the ultimate award for the work ethic, commitment and dedication of everyone at the club, from our owners to the countless people who help out at the stadium on a raceday.

“The way we went about handling and organising the three previous meetings for the FIM obviously played a significant part in their decision, but it still came as something of a surprise if I’m being honest.

“Ashfield has a safety capacity of 2,600 which, I imagine, will be fully subscribed on the night. It may be that our owners will bring in some additional temporary seating as well, we shall see.

“It’s too early to think about tickets just yet, but the build-up to the meeting in terms of pre-planning and preparation will commence before January is out.”
