Report

NEWCASTLE edged out a Stoke Select for a 46-44 victory in Sunday’s Dave Tattum Memorial at Brough Park.

The Potters clawed back from a ten-point deficit to force a last-heat decider but Max Clegg was the hero for the Diamonds as he won the race after team-mate Paul Starke had been disqualified.

Clegg top-scored with 12+1 and Matthew Wethers added 10, whilst Ben Barker (13) and Steve Worrall (10+3) led the way for the visitors.

Newcastle owner Rob Grant said: “Tonight was a good exercise for the lads to get their first match on home ground under their belts, check their settings on the bikes, make adjustments to get the best out of the machines, and get some proper match experience.

“It did the job tonight and they even took a win over a Select side including Ben Barker, Stevie Worrall and Ricky Wells, so it’s a fair thing to say yes, I’m satisfied with things so far.”

Stoke co-boss Lloyd Tattum said: “I’d like to thank Rob Grant and the Newcastle promotion, both sets of riders for putting on a good display, the Stoke riders for accepting the booking to ride for the club, and the supporters who made the trip up from the Potteries.

“I know my dad would have been proud, and hopefully we can run the meeting again next year.”
