PREVIEW: REDCAR v NEWCASTLE (Champ)

REDCAR have been boosted by the fitness of skipper Charles Wright ahead of tonight’s (Friday) local derby clash with Newcastle.

Wright suffered a knee injury in a crash at Birmingham on Wednesday and missed his Premiership match for Belle Vue last night, but is now set to return at the Media Prima Arena.

That comes as good news for the Bears who are without their entire second-string/reserve department due to injuries and Covid issues. Ben Cook, Stefan Nielsen and Dan Thompson all make guest appearances whilst rider-replacement remains in operation for Jordan Stewart.

Newcastle track a full septet as Adam Roynon returns from injury after crashing out at Scunthorpe last month.

Bears boss Jade Mudgway said: “It is a struggle to run a team with guest riders but the good thing is that British Speedway is a small world so most of the riders know each other anyway!

“The hardest job is getting the riders to put a team together and making sure everything is in place beforehand. Although the guests do a good job, we do miss that sense of togetherness of having our full septet available.”

REDCAR: Charles Wright, Ben Cook, Jake Allen, Jordan Stewart R/R, Michael Palm Toft, Stefan Nielsen, Dan Thompson.
NEWCASTLE: Ben Barker, Adam Roynon, Connor Mountain, Max Clegg, Matthew Wethers, James Wright, Archie Freeman.
