GEMS SPARKLE AT HOME

NEWCASTLE collected a handsome 55-33 win over Armadale in the National Development League with skipper Max Clegg scoring a 15-point maximum.

Reserve Archie Freeman also racked up 10+1 for the Gems, whilst the Devils had three riders who failed to score. Danny Phillips (11) and Nathan Greaves (10) were their top men.

Armadale boss Alan Budzynski said: “You can’t blame the track as it is the same for all the riders, but some were struggling more than others.

“I thought when Lewis (Millar) and Gregor (Millar) went into a 5-1 in Heat 2, ‘we could be into something here,’ but the track caught them out a little with their inexperience – you even saw it catching out people like Nathan in Heat 15.

“We just need to mark this down for experience and move into the next one.”
