RISS HAPPY TO BE WITH BRUMMIES

GERMAN hotshot Erik Riss has finally met his new Birmingham colleagues.

Riss was at Perry Barr for the club’s press and practice day earlier this week ahead of the opening home meeting against his former club Redcar next Wednesday.

He had initially chosen to focus on European racing this season but has now picked up places in both senior leagues after the Covid picture in the UK improved.

Riss said: “I thought I had probably missed my opportunity to come back because all the teams would have been sorted out, but I was pleasantly surprised when Birmingham could find room for me.

“The vaccine has saved the season in my opinion. It’s what has got fans back into stadiums, and it’s so good to see speedway back with supporters.

“I’m sure it will be an emotional occasion next Wednesday against Redcar, and I’m looking forward to riding against my old club. They’ve put a good team together without me and it should be a good meeting for the fans to enjoy.”
