ADVANTAGE LIONS

LEICESTER have one foot in the Championship play-off semi-finals after winning 54-36 at Scunthorpe on Friday. The Lions are the only visiting team to have been successful at the Eddie Wright Raceway this season, and have now done it for a third time in 2021 after dominating the first leg of the quarter-final.

Ryan Douglas again showed his liking for his old home track with 13 points whilst reserve Zaine Kennedy (10+2) and skipper Kyle Howarth (10+1) also hit double-figures.

Adam Ellis scored 13 for the Scorpions and guest reserve Connor Mountain added 9+1.

Lions boss Stewart Dickson said: “We came looking to either get a victory or to keep it as close as possible and I don’t think we envisaged winning by that margin, even in our wildest dreams.

“It was a good response from the Poole meeting on Wednesday and it was important for me and the riders to have a good night.

“We took command of the meeting around Heat 5 and then marched on thanks to some really good individual performances. It was a good team performance too, everyone scored points.”

Saturday’s scheduled second leg has been postponed due to the weather and will now take place on October 9.
