DEVILS DEFEAT CUBS
DANNY Phillips kept up his strong run of form to lead Armadale to a 50-40 win over Leicester in the NDL on Friday.
Phillips scored 14 points for the Devils, beating beaten only in his first ride by Joe Thompson (12+1), and his win in Heat 15 prevented the Lion Cubs from taking a league point.
Guest William Lawson added 10 for the home side with reserve Archie Freeman notching 9+1, whilst Dan Thompson scored 11 for the Cubs.
Phillips said: “It was a hard meeting! I seemed to have a Thompson twin, either one or both, in every race! Good close racing though.
“I think that rain in the early stages helped a little bit because we had similar conditions last week. I just left a gap in my first race and Joe Thompson passed me, otherwise I’d have scored a maximum.”
Lion Cubs boss Dave Howard said: “Danny Phillips was just electric out of the starts for them, as was William Lawson early on, but we kept within range of a point and had a chance in the last race – but Danny made another great start.
“Joe unfortunately was about to go around William, who kind of lost it a bit, and Joe had nowhere to go – but Dan and Joe led the way with great efforts, and everybody gave absolutely everything on what was quite a tricky track.”
