Report

PETERBOROUGH have topped the Premiership table ahead of the play-offs after a thumping 58-32 home win over King’s Lynn.

The Panthers head the regular standings at the end of the regular campaign for the first time since 2006, and now head into Monday’s play-off semi-final at Wolverhampton.

Michael Palm Toft led the way with 15+2 for the hosts with Chris Harris also scoring 15 and Hans Andersen 12 as the Panthers bounced back from their home defeat to Sheffield – whilst defeat ensures the Stars will end the season with the wooden spoon.

Peterborough boss Rob Lyon said: “We got the response we wanted. We’ve done it before after losing twice to Belle Vue, we bounced back and had terrific meetings, and we’ve done it again tonight.

“The character in this team has been fantastic all season, and I’m proud of the way they’ve all performed throughout the season.

“To finish top of the table, although it means nothing really in this day and age, is a terrific achievement from all the boys, and we need to use that confidence going into Monday’s play-off and take it from there.”

Stars manager Alex Brady said: “Disappointed is the over-riding feeling tonight because I honestly thought we could come here and get something.

“It seems crazy to say after losing by 26, but it feels like a real missed opportunity, and it’s the most disappointed I’ve been by a long way since taking over.”
