DIAMONDS SHOCK LEAGUE LEADERS
NEWCASTLE stunned Championship leaders Glasgow with a 48-42 win over the Tigers at Brough Park.
The visitors were limited to one point from the meeting with Adam Roynon piling up 14 points at reserve for the Diamonds.
Max Clegg added 11+1 and skipper Ben Barker 10+1, whilst guest Steve Worrall scored 10 for the visitors.
Newcastle boss Steve Pate said: “Tonight was like speedway has finally come back to Newcastle, with the whole side weighing in with everything they could.
“Even if points weren’t coming, they were hard at it in the pits, helping as a team to get a result we all desperately wanted.
“I think the whole of speedway were expecting us to crash and burn to a big defeat tonight, as there’ll be shocked faces the length of Britain after our well-deserved and very hard-fought victory.”
Glasgow manager Cami Brown said: “It’s the most disappointed I’ve been all season. There’s no hiding it, it’s a shocker.
“We really missed Ulrich Ostergaard again tonight, we were a bit ring-rusty and the exclusions didn’t help, but that’s just excuses – at the end of the day, we weren’t good enough.
“We didn’t win enough races and that’s what cost us. You don’t win away from home winning that many races.”
