PREVIEW: BERWICK v BELLE VUE (NDL)

BELLE Vue star Benji Compton says the Colts go into their NDL opener at Berwick tonight (Saturday) gunning for an away win.

Compton’s return to the sport was delayed by around 24 hours when the club’s first home meeting against Newcastle was postponed on Friday.

But he says they have nothing to fear ahead of the trip to Shielfield Park where they face a number of former Belle Vue riders including Bullets’ top two Leon Flint and Kyle Bickley.

Compton said: “It was a blow not to be able to have our first meeting at home. It would have been a good kick to start our campaign, but there’s nothing we could do about the weather.

“It can be daunting to race your first meeting away, but I think people will be quite surprised by our performance. There’s a lot of faith and a lot of promise in this team.

“I don’t think any of the boys are put off by the fact that Berwick are tracking a few former Belle Vue lads. We’ve a lot of respect for them, but at the end of the day we’re going there to beat them.”

BERWICK: Leon Flint, Ryan MacDonald, Greg Blair, Ben Rathbone, Kyle Bickley, Kieran Douglas, Mason Watson.
BELLE VUE: Jack Parkinson-Blackburn, Ben Woodhull, Benji Compton, Paul Bowen, Connor Coles, Harry McGurk, Sam McGurk.
