HISTORY FOR LAMBERT
SCUNTHORPE skipper Simon Lambert scored a 15-point maximum at reserve as the Scorpions defeated Oxford 54-36 at the Eddie Wright Raceway.
Lambert reeled off five straight wins for the home side, who bounced back to winning ways after their recent home defeat to Plymouth.
It was his first-ever full maximum at Championship level, 17 years after making his debut in 2005 – although he had previously scored nine paid maximums, the last of which was over a decade ago.
Ryan Douglas picked up eight points from three rides before sitting out his final outing after his recent injury, whilst the Cheetahs’ scoring was dominated by guest Chris Harris (12) and skipper Scott Nicholls (11+1).
Lambert said: “The night couldn’t have gone much better, although I could have made five perfect starts and made things a bit easier for myself! It has been years since I got a maximum in this league, so I am delighted.
“Tonight I made some decent starts in some races, as well as having to earn quite a few of my points from the back. It’s given me a bit of self-belief and confidence and given me a bit of fresh air.
“People think speedway is simple and easy – but it’s far from it, and tonight has given me a real boost.
“We performed from one-to-seven tonight. Jordan (Palin) has been struggling, Ryan (Kinsley) has been struggling, but tonight they showed what they can do. It was a solid performance, and our morale and belief is back.”
