TIGERS EDGE A THRILLER
GLASGOW moved clear in second place in the Cab Direct Championship by holding on for a 46-44 win over title holders Poole.
The Pirates recovered from ten points down with five races to go to force a last-heat decider, with the home side’s lead cut down to two.
But whilst Richard Lawson won the race for the visitors after a frantic battle, second and third places for Benjamin Basso and Chris Harris over Steve Worrall were enough for the Tigers to take the victory.
Basso (12+1) and Harris (10+1) led the way for the home side, whilst Lawson was unbeaten after a last place in Heat 1 as he collected 12+3.
Poole boss Gary Havelock said: “There is no shame in losing at Glasgow. I thought our boys were brilliant. It was a fantastic effort.
“We had a slow start, the track was a little bit different to when we’ve been here before and it took us a few heats to get going, but Richard Lawson was amazing and Anders Rowe was great.
“It was a fantastic team effort to pull back twice from being ten points down and only lose by two. It’s disappointing but it is what it was.”
